Why it works
Block cheese costs far less per ounce than pre-cut, and breaking it into rough shards makes it look hand-cut and expensive. Pepperoni and summer sausage give the most meat per dollar and keep for weeks, so nothing is wasted.
The pantry does the rest. A drizzle of honey over the cheddar and a small bowl of mustard cost almost nothing but make the board look planned. Apple and grapes give the sweet and sour contrast every good board needs, and baby carrots add the one bright colour.

Questions
Can you really make a charcuterie board for $25?
Yes, for 6 to 8 people, by buying block cheese instead of pre-cut, using pepperoni and summer sausage, and taking honey and mustard from the pantry.
What makes a cheap board look expensive?
Rough-cut cheese instead of neat cubes, meats folded instead of laid flat, and no empty space on the board.
Where does an extra $10 go furthest?
A small wedge of aged Gouda or Manchego. One good cheese lifts the whole board.
