People who love wine and cheese usually have the wine covered. What helps is everything around the glass: knowing which cheese goes with which bottle, something to serve it on, and the small tools that make an evening of it.

Gifts for wine and cheese lovers: questions

What do you get a wine and cheese lover?

Something that helps them pair and serve: a board book with pairing boards, a wine and cheese pairing chart, a slate board, a good knife set or a pair of all-purpose wine glasses.

What cheese goes with red wine?

Aged, firm cheeses like aged cheddar, Manchego, Gouda and Parmigiano-Reggiano stand up to tannic reds. Soft, creamy cheeses usually do better with white or sparkling wine.

Is a wine aerator worth it?

For young, tannic red wines, yes: it softens them in seconds instead of an hour in a decanter. It does little for white wine or older reds.

What should I put in a wine and cheese gift basket?

Two or three cheeses of different textures, crackers, fig spread, Marcona almonds, dark chocolate and a bottle. Add the cheese last, right before you hand it over, and tell them to refrigerate it.

What is a good wine and cheese book?

50 Boards, Built by Science has a full wine and cheese pairing board and pairing logic on every board. For styling, That Cheese Plate Will Change Your Life is popular.
