Quick answer: For a top client, send a Boarderie ready-to-serve board (about $129–139) or a Harry & David meat and cheese box (about $110). For a long list, a paperback of Around the World in 16 Boards ($16.99) or a Swiss Colony sausage and cheese set ($25–45) keeps the cost down. The IRS lets a business deduct no more than $25 of gifts per client per year.

Giving a paperback? Amazon shows the delivery date at checkout. For Christmas, aim to order by mid-December.

A food gift is the safest client gift there is: almost everyone eats it, nobody has to find a shelf for it, and it lands well at an office where it can be shared. The trick is matching the gift to the relationship. A ready-to-serve board for the client who signs the big contract, something shelf-stable and cheap for the long list, and something with your name on it for the people you'll see all year.

How to send charcuterie to a client list

  • Order early. For Christmas, order in the first week of December. Holiday cut-offs come early, and perishable boxes often ship only Monday to Wednesday so they don't sit in a warehouse over a weekend.
  • Ship to where someone will be. A box with soft cheese needs a person to put it in the fridge. Offices close for the holidays; check before sending perishables there.
  • Shelf-stable for long lists. Whole summer sausage, waxed cheese, crackers, nuts and books can sit in a mailroom. Save the perishable boxes for clients you can call first.
  • The $25 rule. A business can deduct no more than $25 of gifts given to each person in a tax year. Engraving, packing and shipping don't count toward the $25 if they don't add real value (IRS). You can spend more; only $25 per person is deductible.
  • Add a note that says why. "Thanks for a great year" beats a logo card. For a book, write which board you'd make first.

Client and corporate charcuterie gifts: questions

What is a good charcuterie gift for clients?

For a top client, a ready-to-serve Boarderie board or a Harry & David meat and cheese box. For a long list, something shelf-stable under $25: a board book, Swiss Colony sausage and cheese, or a jar of fig spread with Marcona almonds.

How much can a business deduct for client gifts?

No more than $25 per person per year, according to the IRS. Incidental costs such as engraving, packing and shipping don't count toward the $25 if they don't add substantial value. Ask your accountant about your situation.

Can I send a charcuterie box to an office?

Yes, but check that someone will be there. Boxes with soft cheese or sliced meat need refrigerating on arrival, and many offices close over the holidays. Shelf-stable boxes are safer for offices.

When should I order corporate food gifts for Christmas?

In the first week of December, and earlier for large orders. Perishable boxes often ship only early in the week, and carriers are slowest in the last two weeks before Christmas.

What is a good charcuterie gift for employees?

A board book they can use at home, or a ready-to-serve board for the team to share in the office. For remote teams, a book or a shelf-stable sausage and cheese set mails easily.
