Build this exact board

This page shows what the board is and why it works. The plan is what you take to the store and the counter:

  • The exact shopping list for 10–16 guests, with an amount and an estimated price for every item
  • Where every item goes on the board, step by step, and why
  • The full 5-step timeline, from fridge to table
  • A swap for anything your store is out of, plus optional upgrades

Why it works

Every skewer is a complete four-part bite (meat, cheese, vegetable and herb), so the pairing is done for your guests. The board uses three: caprese with prosciutto, salami with provolone, olive and pepper, and Parmesan with soppressata and artichoke.

Standing the skewers up adds height a flat board can't, and the whole thing works without plates or knives. Extra olives, focaccia and a dish of herbed olive oil fill the rest.

Timeline

  1. T–35 minBuild 20 skewers; cover and refrigerate.
  2. T–20 minMix the herbed olive oil.
  3. + 3 more stepsThe rest of the timeline and the step-by-step placement are in the full plan.

Questions

What goes on antipasto skewers?

Cherry tomato, mozzarella and basil with prosciutto; salami, provolone, olive and roasted pepper; Parmesan, soppressata and artichoke.

Can I make antipasto skewers ahead?

Yes. Build them up to 4 hours ahead and keep them covered in the fridge. Add basil leaves close to serving so they don't wilt.

How many skewers per person?

About 2 to 3 per person as an appetizer.
